Kurt Browning is one of Canada's foremost figure skaters and is credited with landing the
world's first quadruple jump at the World Championship level.
His father built a small outdoor rink and Browning learned to skate on it when he was only three years old.
He was brought up and educated in the community of Caroline, Alberta.
Kurt Browning started out to be a hockey player and used the idea of taking figure skating in order to get more ice time.
Gradually, he began to foster an appreciation for the skills involved in figure skating.
When only 11, Browning placed 3rd in a skating program that he forgot what to do so he made it up as he skated the program.
Browning decided at age 15 to serious follow a career in figure skating.
Three years later in 1985, Kurt Browning won the 1985 Canadian Junior Men's championship.
Browning was the first Canadian to win three World Championships in figure skating.
He was named Canada's Athlete of the year on two occasions and was inducted into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall
of Fame in the year 2000.
Browning also had a star placed in his honour on Canada's Walk of Fame in 2001.
In 1990, he received one of the country's highest honours by being inducted into the Order of Canada.
He turned professional in 1991 and has been a regular performer in the "Stars on Ice" show.
Kurt Browning is a true representative for Canada on the world stage for figure skating.
