Ferguson Arthur Jenkins
Born: December 13, 1943
Place of Birth: Chatham, Ontario
Major Notes:
Jenkins was said to be a pitcher with pin-point control.
Typically, he walked fewer that two batters for each nine innings he pitched; a remarkable record.
Over his professional career, he struck out 3192 batters and only walked 997.
Some felt he never received the fame he deserved as a baseball pitcher.
His strikeout record is the ninth best in baseball.
Jenkins had 267 complete games and 49 career shutouts.
In 1971, he was named "Pitcher of the Year" by The Sporting News.
He had 20 or more wins seven times in his 284 total victories.
Jenkins pitched for six teams over his career, pitching in both major leagues.
As a fielding pitcher, his record was a perfect 1.000 in at least 4 seasons.
Jenkins became the first Canadian to be accepted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
The Society for Baseball Research voted Jenkins as one of the top 100 baseball players in the 20th century
