The world of sports is made up of hundreds of sporting communities. Each community has the means of introducing youth to the sport it represents. Across Canada, for example, there is a hockey community which has set up organizations and leagues
where youngsters may gradually learn to play hockey. The same type of thing occurs with baseball, figure skating, basketball, and many other sports. Sport heroes often lend their time to help these communities and promote the sport.
Self-confidence is a positive outcome of being involved in athletic programs. The athletic hero is willing to take risks and push his or her limits in order to accomplish a goal. In doing so, the sports hero also admits to mistakes and
learns from mistakes made in playing the sport. Most of the people featured on Canada Heros have suffered setbacks and athletic heroes are no exception.
